How To Make A Pregnancy Belly Cast or Belly Mask

Before beginning the belly cast, put on the disposable gloves provided in your Mother Belly Pregnancy Belly Cast Kit. Cut plaster bandages into strips after measuring them against the expectant mom's belly. Cut some small in length for around the breast area, some medium for the upper and lower belly area, and some large to span the widest part of the belly. Have a pan with water handy.
1. Apply Vaseline liberally to the area being cast and any area of
the body the plaster bandages may touch (belly, breasts, shoulders,
sides, etc.) so the final belly cast will slide easily off mom's
skin. This step is imperative! Never place
wet plaster bandages against unprotected skin!

1A. Over the Vaseline, an optional wrap like Glad Press N' Seal can
also be used. This prevents the Vaseline from adhering to the inside
of the cast, and adds the benefit of extra skin protection as well.
We do not recommend the plastic wrap as the only means of skin
protection. Use over the Vaseline only.(Click image to enlarge or view as slideshow)
2. Hold each end of a strip and run it through the water in the pan.
Then, while holding the wet bandage upright at the top with one
hand, use the fingers of your other hand to wick away excess
moisture off the bandage as shown.

3. Apply the wet plaster bandages across the front of the belly one
at a time. Start at the uppermost area and work downward (e.g.,
shoulders, then breasts, then belly). For comfort, mom can remain
seated until reaching a point lower in the casting where she needs
to stand.

4. Smooth each bandage into place and make sure the creamy plaster
is spread well over each plaster bandage.

5. Make sure bandages lay as smooth and evenly as possible and that
the edges lay flat.

6. Layer the bandages so there are 3 to 4 layers over every section
of the belly cast.

7. Once all bandages are in place, allow several minutes to complete
drying before removing the belly cast from mom. Set the belly mold
aside 4-5 days to dry before sanding and painting this memorable
maternity and pregnancy keepsake.(Click image to enlarge or view as slideshow)
