An illustrated body casting session with Bodyscape

These two good friends decided to take a day off, have a casting done in the morning and spend the rest of the day visiting some of  Waiheke Island vineyards for a meal and a wine.

From this....

....to this.

Barbara wants a casting of her back as a birthday gift for her husband.

She must first take her clothes off and try a number of positions until we find one that is both seductive and comfortable.

Having a friend or partner present is a good idea. He or she can help choosing a pose.

On this occasion Judy helped me with some aspects of the process. She also document the whole session on camera.

I start by applying some alginate paste over Barbaras naked skin. She finds it rather cold.

I must ensure that the alginate covers every part of the casting area.

Next I cover the alginate with plaster bandages.

Once the plaster has set, I remove the entire mold off Barbara's body.

Free at last!

Barbara can now have a shower to clean herself of alginate and plaster drips.

Clean and decent again, Barbara joins me in the workshop to admire her mold

Barbara and Judy have gone for a tour of the Island, a swim and a meal.

In the meantime, I cast the mold with Forton, a mixture of plaster and resin.

I have embedded a handle at the back of the casting. This will allow the sculpture to be hung on a wall.

Once the casting has set, I clean the rough edges of the sculpture

A stunning sculpture

Barbara thinks her husband will love his birthday gift.

Not many husbands have a sculpture of their wife's bum to decorate their office...!

The cold alginate raised goose bumps on Barabara's skin...

Every detail of the skin texture is captured

Graceful curves indeed

I love my job...

Modelling to have a sculpture made of your own body is a unique and moving experience. The process is quick and easy for the model. It typically take less than 30 minutes to complete. I work from my private and comfortable studio on beautiful Waiheke Island.
