Postby Wikus » 11 Nov 2011, 23:29

Hi there all!

I am happy to announce that Sculpted Metals in Thames is now providing a Bronze casting service to anyone wanting their sculptures cast in Bronze, brass or aluminium. I am also looking into the possibility of casting sculptures in 316L Stainless steel!

Hi there

Bronze is heavier than stainless steel, cost will be more expensive than bronze to cast. Stainless steel can only be melted with induction furnaces, the melting point for S.S is over 1500 deg C whereas silicone bronze can be melted in a gas or oil fired furnace at much lower temp.

The process is the same as for bronze except that the mould shell must be built with zircon flower in the slurry, therefore the price will also go up. Costing will be about 30% more for stainless steel.
I do not do plating but bronze can be chrome plated or nickel plated.

Thanx for asking
